ABOUT SAN JUAN DEL RÍO, QUERÉTARO, MEXICO
Casona La Guadalupana is an architectural
gem located in the historic center of San Juan del Río, a medium-sized city
that is located 1.5 hours from Mexico City and 30 minutes from the city of
Santiago de Querétaro.
The architectural style of La Casona in its
current state is attributed to Eduardo Tresguerras (1759-1833), architect,
painter, and sculptor of the colonial period, born in Celaya and a follower of
the neoclassical movement in Mexico.
The property has a Renaissance style floor
plan. Baroque decorations and lowered arches that were given to the house in
centuries before the neoclassical movement, lasted until the beginning of the
18th century, when devastated by the guerrillas that originated in Mexico, Don
Esteban, owner of the house at that time, wanted to have his house remodeled.
It is here when the architect Tresguerras rebuilt the house in a neoclassical
style, turning this property into an icon of the architecture of that time in
the area.
